Forrest and Candice McCray

Project: Phase 1: Outdoor fireplace, pergola and patio space. Phase 2: Pool and spa, retaining wall and stairs, outdoor lighting

Why: The McCray’s wanted to create an outdoor living space that the whole family could enjoy. They also greatly appreciate their peaceful view of the pond, so they wanted something that complemented the natural beauty they enjoy every day.

Extreme Exteriors services used: Design, construction, retail sales

After completely renovating their home’s interior, Candice and Forrest turned their attention to the outdoor living area. During phase one of construction, the Extreme Exteriors team extended the patio space to accommodate a dining area. A nice seating area by the new outdoor fireplace was also constructed. The McCray’s knew they eventually wanted a pool because they are such outdoor people who love the water. They have access to the pond, but they probably didn’t want to swim in it, unless they planned to paddle alongside the family of beavers that make their home there!

Candice wanted a pool that was beautiful and elegantly simple. Although Extreme Exteriors completed phase one to her liking, Candice spoke with a few other pool builders to see what they could offer. In the end, she was most impressed with the design process Extreme Exteriors offered. She said, “Our pool design was a total collaboration between me, my husband Forrest, and Randy. We told Randy what would go well with our home and he came up with a design. We told him the features that we wanted: a spa, bowls, and a little area that you can take a chair into the pool. Randy came up with the seats underneath the bowls, so if you’re sitting there the water comes from the bowls and runs down your back.”

Candice also worked together closely with project manager Jeremy Scott on details such as the pool’s plaster finish, the columns around the pool, and the design for the wrought-iron gates that will soon be installed.

Candice’s level of involvement has really paid off in terms of her achieving the look that she hoped for. Her advice to anyone who is thinking about working with Extreme Exteriors is, “I would give Extreme Exteriors 100%, totally go with them, and be on the same page. I think it’s important to be involved in the process so that it’s done exactly as you want it. When you’re involved, it’s nice to be able to bounce ideas around. Because sometimes you don’t know what you want and it’s nice to rely on the experts who’ve done it a bunch of times.”

The confidence that Candice and Forrest developed with the Extreme Exteriors team is a huge reason why she would use us again. Their home site is an acre and a half, so they may continue to make changes to it with time. For instance, she’s thinking about adding a seating area with a firepit closer to the pond and installing a small bar area near the dining table.

One little finishing touch Candice may have to add soon is a cute sign that says, “McCray Resort”. Her parents came from South Carolina and couldn’t believe how beautiful everything looked. Her mom started calling it the McCray Resort and it really does fit. The elegance and beauty Candice and Forrest wanted to add to their home is abundantly present. A home should reflect who you are, and the McCray’s really got it right due to their level of involvement from start to finish.

Vicki and Perry Draper

Project: Outdoor kitchen, landscaping, irrigation

Why: A fire destroyed their home, but it didn’t take away the Draper’s love for their property. They rebuilt their home and outdoor living spaces better than before. They enjoy swimming, playing with their dogs, entertaining, and being together outside as often as possible.

Extreme Exteriors Services Used: Design, construction, retail, maintenance

Vicki and Perry Draper have been through a lot in the past two years with a total loss of their home. The fire destroyed everything, thankfully sparing their family from loss of life. They are both so cheerful, you would never know the trial they went through. They are a great example to their two children, Sadie and Samy, of moving on and not looking back.

Their cheerful personalities are reflected in the bright, happy furniture and décor which brings a fun vibe to their outdoor living areas. Within the last year or so, the Drapers have selected bar stools, dining sets, benches, and more so that there’s plenty of seating when they entertain. “There’s so many places to sit, half of our guests don’t even have to get along!” Perry commented with a laugh.

Perry loves to cook for friends and family and worked with the Extreme Exteriors design team on his outdoor kitchen. Perry had an outdoor kitchen before the fire, but it wasn’t as big as it is now. He has plans in the near future to make it even bigger, as he finds that he’s cooking out often enough that it makes sense to expand. “I want it 100 percent independent from the house, with a full-size refrigerator so I can keep all my stuff out there,” Perry said. He’s also thinking of adding a TV and more cabinet space. He’s eagerly waiting to see what the Extreme Exteriors design team comes up with!

Sadie and Samy love their outdoor space just as much as their parents. They have plenty of room to run around with the pet dogs, play on the play equipment, and most of all swim. Perry said the kids swim almost every night year-round. Vicki loves being outside with the kids and dogs too, and finds she’s at her happiest when the kids are swimming, the dogs are running around, and Perry’s cooking dinner. She loves the privacy and the peacefulness of her home.

Beyond the outdoor kitchen, the Extreme Exteriors team was also able to landscape the front and side yards, which needed a lot of help after the fire. The Drapers are pleased with their landscape design and the team’s efforts to bring new life back to their property. Their home is a true reflection of who they are and we are grateful we’ve played a small part in their story.

Tal and Tyree Fillingim

Clients: Tal and Tyree Fillingim

Project: Outdoor kitchen, pergola, pool and spa, custom firepit, and pavers

Why: They wanted a place that all their children could enjoy at the same time – a place that amounted to their own vacation destination that they wouldn’t have to pack their bags and go away to make memories as a family.

Extreme Exteriors Services Used: Design, Construction, Retail

Tal and Tyree love cooking outdoors, and their first thought was to build an outdoor kitchen. As part of their research into working with the Extreme Exteriors team, they visited a few other properties that the team had worked on.  Tal and Tyree were impressed with Extreme Exteriors’ ability to create some truly impressive outdoor living areas, so they decided to go all-in with a new pool that features a tall waterfall and grotto seating area.

Tal is an architect by trade, so he was very involved with designing the space. He knew the look he wanted to achieve and worked through several different design concepts until everything looked right. Tyree also had great ideas, such as adding the custom firepit and helping to design the layout of the pool – even down to details such as the depth of the pool.  She said, “We could have made the pool deeper, but it was a conscious decision to keep the pool at about five and a half feet so that I could see the kids at all times.”

The pool depth is still generous enough to get a nice plunge while jumping from the top of the grotto or coming in off of the slide. As the weather warms up, they are looking forward to using the pool day in and day out. Tal and Tyree are also pleasantly surprised at how often they use their spa. “Even on summer evenings, we used it more than we thought we would,” Tal said.  Plenty of summer cookouts will be in order too, and Tal is thrilled with the new lighting that the Extreme Exteriors team added to make grilling in the outdoor kitchen safe and easy!

Overall Tal says everything met or exceeded their expectations. They are very pleased with the cohesive look that the Extreme Exteriors team was able to deliver. He and Tyree feel very confident recommending the Extreme Exteriors team; in fact, they have now come full circle from where they began. “We’ve already had people (prospective customers) come out to see our space,” Tal said.

We are so grateful that the Fillingims trusted us to create the outdoor space they envisioned. The fun thing is they have room to grow, with more property beyond their fence line and a space in the yard that they’re considering for a putting green. They know who they’ll be calling when they’re ready for more! In the meantime, they have a wonderful space to enjoy together and make memories as a family that will last forever.

  • Project: Pool and spa, outdoor kitchen, basketball court, pavers, sod, landscaping, outdoor living accents
  • Why: Their outdoor living space is where they can slow down and enjoy every day moments as a family. They spend more time outside than anywhere else in the home.  This is where they can be together, “taking it all in.”

Imagine for a moment the excitement and wonder you might have felt as a child catching a firefly in a jar. Taking a close-up look, you would admire the firefly’s light and might question how it could be such a unique and awesome creation. There is a thrill from seeing something beautiful in the natural world, and the Fulenwider’s home is a showcase for many of these awe-inspiring natural elements: stone, water, wood, and beautiful plants in every direction.

Leslie said she is huge on aesthetics and that she and Blake really knew what they wanted. Being able to work with the Extreme Exteriors team gave them everything they were looking for. The Italian Cypress trees are an example of the kind of streamlined, symmetrical look that Leslie wanted, as was the shape of the pool, and even the seating area. “Randy listened to us and embraced what we wanted. He’s very good at listening and asking the right questions until it’s right and it all clicks.” She said some of the things they were looking for were very specific and the Extreme Exteriors team took care to ensure that they got what they wanted. Some of those specifics were challenging because the team needed to duplicate the look of the previously built-in fireplace and wood beams above the patio.  Meeting challenges such as this is what sets Extreme Exteriors apart from others, thanks to our team members who can design and build structures in addition to designing and building pools.

f4Blake and Leslie love to sit in the black and white swivel chairs, watching TV or keeping an eye on the kids in the pool. The kids are typically sitting at the bar stools, or running back and forth between the basketball court and the pool. All kinds of games take place in the pool — basketball, volleyball, even pool baseball! They also really like playing around the beach entry and using the steps in the pool next to the spa to position players for maximum enjoyment.

Leslie herself enjoys the look of the pool, and how it feels at different times of the day. “Blake and I work out together at 5:30 in the morning, and we’ll catch just a glimmer of light on the pool. f3Then I’ll go out when the full sun is up in the morning and I love how the light hits the water and the pavers. In the afternoon, I’ll take my laptop outside to work, turn on the fans, and the temperature by the pool is just right. In the evening, we’ll all be out there getting a ton of use out of it. I’m not lying, we use it all the time and we can use it for everything. One day it might be a houseful of kids — another day, it might be entertaining a keynote speaker who is in town for an event,” Leslie said.

No matter if it’s a large gathering or an intimate dinner with close friends, the Fulendwider’s now have the outdoor living area that they envisioned.  The space combines to present a very aesthetically pleasing view, day to day and year to year. The Fulenwider’s know this won’t be their forever home, but they’ve had a lot of fun working with Extreme Exteriors on this space and the experience has given them plenty of ideas of what they’ll do for the next time! We sincerely hope that whenever that time comes, Blake and Leslie will entrust us again to help bring their vision to life.  f1

Team Member Misty McIntosh

Who she is: Misty McIntosh, designer misty

Misty has been with Extreme Exteriors for four years. She and her husband Dan have been together for 20 years and have two sons, Claude, 13, and Maysen, 6. Here’s a little bit about Misty!

“As a family we like motorcycles! My husband owns RSR Motorsports, a local motorcycle shop, and has been in the motorcycle industry since his teen years. The boys love to ride their motorcycles and the youngest wants to be a racer. I am a big chicken so I enjoy just watching them ride. We like going to the race track together and cheering on the local guys. Maysen won the 5-year-old class bicycle race at the track last year and even made the news! We like pretty much anything with wheels, especially if it goes fast.”

Why she does what she does:

“I have the best job in the company! Although I don’t get to deal directly with our clients, my clients are my fellow team members. My job is to set them up for success. I get to draw the plans of the designers’ ideas and bring their vision to life on the drawing so they can bring their vision to our clients. When their vision is accurately portrayed they can be confident in and excited about what they are presenting. When our clients decide to have Extreme Exteriors do their project I get to do the construction plans as well. I want our construction team to have all the information they need to have their jobs go as smoothly as possible, as well as be efficient and cost effective. I am lucky enough to have joined Extreme Exteriors early on and been able to be a part of the company growing and improving each day. The people here are more than my co-workers, they are my family.  We care about each other, celebrate our children’s birthdays together, support each other in tough times, and are happy for each other in the good times. I am so happy my life has led me here.”
