Lynn and Dee Ann Key

Project: Pool and spa, landscaping, outdoor living areas

Why: They love their home and neighborhood, and couldn’t picture being happier anywhere else. They had already remodeled the interior of their home, and the next logical step was to improve their outdoor living space.

Extreme Exteriors Services Used: Design, construction, irrigation, retail

The Key’s starting point was truly a blank slate. Lynn and Dee Ann rarely used the backyard because it was only grass. It wasn’t the kind of place that they would invite people over to enjoy, but that doesn’t mean they don’t love their home. They are very comfortable there and over the years, they had remodeled their home to suit their needs. From time to time, their interior remodeling contractors would say, “Let me know if you’re ever interested in a pool.” Without causing any offense, Lynn and Dee Ann decided the best course of action would be to find a professional pool designer.

The Keys were referred to the Extreme Exteriors team by some friends who were satisfied clients. They were shown several different design options for their pool and were happy with the clarity provided, especially because they hadn’t owned a pool before. In the end, they settled on a pool that features a raised spa with waterfall and a tanning ledge with bubblers.

Their favorite thing about working with the Extreme Exteriors team was there were no surprises. Lynn said, “Looking back it was a very wise choice because everything went off without a hitch. They would tell us what they were going to do and then they did it. They made progress every day, stayed on track, and were able to finish ahead of schedule.” Dee Ann and Lynn are very happy with the outcome and feel that it’s the best money they’ve ever spent!

The backyard has truly been transformed from a place that they didn’t really use to an extension of their home that they use every day. It’s also now a place they feel comfortable inviting guests to enjoy. Dee Ann is looking forward to hosting some special events soon — a graduation party at the end of May and a baby shower in June. Her college-age son and daughter have also invited their friends to come enjoy the newly renovated space and that’s been fun for the family. Dee Ann and Lynn are the kind of people who feel comfortable being at home, and we are thrilled that we got to be involved in making their home even more peaceful and inviting.

Dr. Ameeta Kapu

Clients: Dr. Ameeta Kapu and family

Project: Pool, pavers, and landscaping

Why: She previously had more time to travel, especially to the beach because she loves the water. As her work became increasingly demanding, she couldn’t get away as often, so she wanted her home to be her oasis. She also wanted her son and daughter to more fully enjoy being at home.

Extreme Exteriors Services Used: Design and construction

What do you do when you can’t visit your favorite vacation destinations? You bring the feel of those amazing places home! When her children were younger, it was easier to get away. But as they grew and her work increased, Ameeta decided to contact the Extreme Exteriors team to see how we could help transform her backyard.

She wanted to capture the resort-style feel of some of the nicer hotels she stayed at during her previous travels. She also wanted a lot of plants because she enjoys beautiful scenery. She was very happy that her design selection process was easy and that the Extreme Exteriors team could offer her what she wanted. “The reason I chose Extreme Exteriors is because they offered high end materials. If I showed them a picture, they could get what I wanted. A lot of others just didn’t offer enough choices or didn’t have the knowledge that I expected.”

One of Ameeta’s top design priorities was a water feature for the pool because she loves the sound of falling water. She also wanted to make sure the pavers around the pool looked like they belonged there and tied in with the house. She said, “They did a great job on the patio. It almost looks like a French street! They listened to what I wanted and tied everything together so well. And they built the pool really fast, which is especially good.”

The pool was ready for her daughter’s high school graduation last year, and they hosted a celebration for her. “Lots of people came over and it was so beautiful,” she said. Ameeta is happy that she could give her kids a nice place that they could enjoy and that she has her own scenic views. Even though she still likes to travel, she doesn’t have the same need as she once did to “get away” for beautiful scenery. We’re so grateful that Ameeta gave us the opportunity to help transform her backyard into the restful, pleasant space she was looking for and that she could share her “story of why” with us.

Garza Family

Clients: The Garza’s

Project: Pergolas, outdoor kitchen, firepit, concrete walkways and patio spaces, new trees

Why: The Garza’s have a large piece of property, but before their Extreme Exteriors renovation they rarely went outside. They wanted a safe, fun place for the girls to play and a space to entertain friends.

Extreme Exteriors Services Used: Design, Construction, Retail

Over a period of 20 years, Armando Garza renovated and added on to his original home, making it more comfortable for himself, his daughter, and four grandchildren. When they got to the point to make the outside just as comfortable as the inside they called the Extreme Exteriors team! The Garza’s were looking for two main things; seating areas so they could eat together, and concrete walkways so the younger girls could ride their bikes around. They live on a busy road, so they wanted the girls to have a safe place to play in their own backyard.

The design team went to work and came up with a plan that the Garza’s loved and that fit their investment goal. Stacie explained how they chose Extreme Exteriors over another company. “We had another estimate, but they were going to do less work for the same price. They were also going to have to outsource some of the work. We liked the Extreme Exteriors design because it was more detailed and we got more bang for the buck.” The Garza’s design includes two pergolas. One fits directly over the outdoor kitchen and the other adds visual interest to the backyard patio. They also chose a new wood-burning fire pit and concrete walkways that connect the two patios and curve around the sides of the house. This allows younger sisters Kambri and Addalyn plenty of space to ride their bikes. The Extreme Exteriors team also defined a space for their play structure, adding mulch for safety.

With these enhancements in place, Stacie said, “We’ve been cooking, entertaining people and relaxing by the firepit. It’s just been great. In the past, we’d never come outside and now we’re out here a lot more!” They had fun celebrating with friends on New Year’s Eve, and Stacie is looking forward to throwing birthday parties this year in the backyard, something they’ve never done before. Stacie loved working with the Extreme Exteriors team and encourages anyone who is thinking of working with us to go for it. The whole family really loves their outdoor living spaces, and they look forward to making lots of great memories together in the years to come.

Dr. John and Kelley Bliznak

Project: Pool, pavers, firepit, and landscaping

Why: There are two significant reasons – first, they wanted their home to be a gathering place for their family which would give their children great memories and serve as an inspiration for the future. Second, John takes weekend call as a neuroradiologist from his home office. In between sometimes stressful cases, he’s able to take a break to enjoy his plants or jump in the pool to unwind.

Extreme Exteriors Services Used: Design and Construction

John planned his home and backyard to attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and most importantly, people! So far, it’s working great. John’s father loves to stop by and check out the hummingbird activity, and his kids enjoy spending time in the pool. The Extreme Exteriors team designed the flowerbed layout, but John himself organized and planted his abundantly blooming backyard. He is a serious plant-lover, and his yard includes cacti he brought from Arizona, salvias, honeysuckle vines, and blue mist flower shrubs that grow from early spring to late fall. “I had a strong desire to build something and landscape it the way I wanted it. It can be hard to make modifications to an existing home. Kelley sometimes tells people we built the house for the plants!”

When it came time to work on the pool, John drew inspiration from a home tour he took when he lived in Tucson for his neuroradiology fellowship. He said, “I was awestruck by this pool. There were rivulets coming off of flat rock boulders and no coping at all. Kelley and I talked about it and decided if we built a pool, we wanted to emulate that. When we started getting bids, Extreme Exteriors was the first to respond and the pricing was good. Everyone else was extremely expensive.” John and Kelley’s pool has a look unlike Extreme Exteriors has ever done before, with impressively large boulders hugging the pool’s edge. John said the team was able to do a phenomenal job with the resources at hand to build the pool. He admits it’s not exactly like his “inspiration pool” in Tucson, but that pool had a quarry next door and they could get all the granite they wanted at a very low cost. John appreciates that the team working carefully to position each boulder, achieved the right look, and did not drop them into the new pool! In addition, John literally went the extra mile, and drove to Marble Falls to choose more large boulders he wanted to include in his landscape.

Other elements that add to the character of the Bliznak’s backyard include: a custom built firepit, inspired by John’s travels in Africa; and a multi-tiered fountain they like to turn on when they’re hosting parties.

John and Kelley have enjoyed their pool and backyard for more than three years now. Judging from the pictures, everything looks like it could have been completed yesterday! The Bliznak’s are doing a wonderful job of keeping the pool looking great and all the plants healthy and happy. We appreciate them for taking the time to be our client profile and for sharing their story of why. We all have a story of why, and we hope that we can be a part of your story.

Meet Gary and Ginger Causey

causey5Project: Pool/spa (spool), pavers, sod, landscaping, outdoor fireplace, outdoor kitchen

Why: The drought years had taken their toll on the backyard. Gary and Ginger knew their view of the golf course had the potential to look really amazing. Gary is a do-it-yourselfer, but he knew what they wanted would require professional services. They also finally had the time to enjoy being at home, after many years of frequent travel to support their sons’ sporting activities.

Extreme Exteriors Services Used: Design, construction, irrigation, retail

Good things often start with imagination and creativity. Ginger and Gary had both of these qualities in abundance as they pictured a causey3beautiful backyard for their home. Having lived in their home for twelve years, they knew the potential it had – and the challenge it would be to bring out that potential. “I would have loved to do it myself, but it was too big of a job. We wanted something worthwhile to match the view and add value to the home,” Gary said.

At around the same time as the Causey’s were seriously considering upgrading the backyard, the golf course was undergoing a major revision. The greens close to their property were redone and the lake was enlarged. Thankfully this made their view even more beautiful than it was before, and provided additional motivation to move forward.

Ginger and Gary wanted an outdoor fireplace or a firepit, a moderately-sized outdoor kitchen, new landscaping, and just enough grass for their new dog, Kona, to have a place to play. After meeting with the design team, Ginger and Gary decided to include a spool as well. Because the Causey’s yard is very open, it doesn’t have natural wind breaks such as tall trees, so they realized a firepit would likely be causey1too smoky for the space. A large outdoor fireplace with the natural stone that Gary liked was chosen and constructed, matching the stone on the spool and highlighting the color of the travertine pavers. Ginger especially likes the Versailles pattern of the pavers they chose.

The project has only been completed for a couple of weeks; but in that time, Ginger has enjoyed spending time outside on the patio, just watching people go by on the golf course. Gary and Ginger have spent some time in the spool and even Kona has tried it out a little! Ginger is very happy that the project was completed on schedule and that the team was so helpful. “They said to call at any time if I had questions and they were very responsive to our desires. They sent me pictures of exactly what to do with the spool and also made a video of how to test the chemicals so I wouldn’t forget. The crews were very respectful and were some of the hardest working people I’ve ever met.”causey2

Gary and Ginger envisioned a nice place to relax and socialize and as of now, it’s nearly picture-perfect. The big-screen TV is in the box ready to be installed, and the Extreme Exteriors team has only a few minor adjustments to make to the outdoor kitchen and landscaping. Other than that, Ginger’s friends are asking, “When are we having a girls’ night?” The Causey’s may end up being more popular than they want to be! In all seriousness, the backyard looks amazing and definitely adds the value to their home that they were looking for. There’s no doubt at all that they have many years ahead of enjoying their Extreme Exteriors renovation to the fullest.causeyfinal

Terry and Garnet Essex

Clients: Terry and Garnet Essexessex1

Original project:  Pool with waterfall, grotto and spa, sunken outdoor kitchen, outdoor lighting, wood-burning firepit, sod and landscaping

Additional renovation: Custom therapeutic spa, replaced wood-burning firepit with gas firepit, remodeled stairs to bridge

Why: Terry and Garnet wanted to create a place they could enjoy with their friends and family year-round

Services used: Design, pool and landscape construction

When Terry was in Acapulco dreaming of his ideal retirement location, he loved the thought of living right there with the magnificent ocean views and a golf course steps away. But for an asking price of a cool $1 million for an acre lot, Terry knew the dream would have to be realized elsewhere. Fortunately for Extreme Exteriors, Terry and his wife Garnet settled on Abilene to build their home. And though he’s missing his ocean view, he has created a backyard paradise that he loves to use each and every day – and he did get his house on the golf course!essex2

Terry and Garnet lived and worked in Montana for a number of years and although he loved cooking outside, the cold climate naturally limited the amount of time they could truly enjoy their backyard. He knew that by moving to Texas, he would not only be able to cook outside a lot more, but he would also be able to live his ideal lifestyle more easily.

The original build approximately seven years ago included the pool with the bridge, the grotto with a spa, a sunken outdoor kitchen, and complete landscaping. It also included a wood-burning firepit. After enjoying this for several years, Terry and Garnet decided there were a few design changes they would like to make it ideal. First of all, the wood burning firepit was removed and replaced with a gas firepit, making it easier on Garnet who is allergic to smoke. Additionally, the rock steps were remodeled, making them more level than the original build thus making it easier to negotiate the steps without stumbling. The spa under the grotto was removed and completely redone. The new spa features four Bullfrog therapeutic chairs, two of which are completely customized for Terry and Garnet and the other two were placed for guests.essex3

In working with the team on the spa remodel, Terry praised the Extreme Exteriors team saying, “This was creative stuff that’s not easy to do. We appreciated the crew being here on the build, making sure everything was done right and completed the way we wanted it to be.” Terry considers his backyard the perfect place to be outside, and he said there isn’t a week that goes by that they’re not cooking outside. Terry consistently cooks on the Big Green Egg, and he’s gotten pretty good at ribs and brisket. He mentioned what a great cook Garnet is and how she loves to entertain. “The Saturday before Thanksgiving, Garnet hosts a party as a gift to her friends as a celebration of the Christmas season. She includes a wine tasting, along with a variety of cheeses and hors d’ouevres.”  Garnet and Terry also recently hosted a baby shower and dozens of guests were easily accommodated. They love having a place where they can host special events and where they have no problem getting the grandkids to visit!essex-5

Terry is impressed with how company president Randy Glenn has grown the business and put a good team together. He summed up his thoughts saying, “If you’re considering doing something creative outside, that’s not cookie cutter, and you don’t talk to Extreme Exteriors, you’re going to make a mistake.” Terry has generously trusted us to create some very original work. Without clients such as Terry and Garnet, we wouldn’t grow as a company.  And so we graciously say “thank you” to the Essex family for allowing us to be a part of their story.essex-4

Ali and Craig Hanagan

Clients: Craig and Ali Hanagan hanagan-010r

Project: Pool and spa, outdoor kitchen, outdoor lighting, fence, and landscaping

Why: They love being outside as a family and they wanted to create a place where they could relax and their kids could play.

Services Used: Design, pool and landscape construction

When Craig and Ali bought their home in Midland, they quickly realized that the only member of the family who enjoyed the backyard was their pet dog, Chip. hanagan-015rChip loved digging and romping around in the bark mulch. The kids, however, were uncomfortably hot playing on the artificial turf, and Ali and Craig didn’t have much reason to even venture outside, although they both consider themselves outdoor people. After one particularly hot Independence Day with family visiting and no relief from the heat, Ali and Craig decided it was time to seriously consider renovating the backyard.

Ali and Craig’s top priorities were to have a spa and a beach entry. hanagan-012rThe pool that the design team came up with includes both of these and other beautiful features such as the water fountains and a gas firepit. hpoolatnightThey love turning off the pool lights and the landscape lights and turning on the firepit, watching the firelight dance as they relax in the spa. They were both also pleasantly surprised with how much they enjoy the sound of the cascading water. “We love hearing the fountains in the morning when we’re out drinking coffee. And at night, the fountains also drown out any traffic noise,” Ali said.  hanagan-006r

Another sound barrier that the Extreme Exteriors team worked to create was the tall fence. This is also a great privacy screen. The height is proportional to the elevated patio area, where sunbathers can relax or the kids can jump hanagan-019rfro into the pool below. A second patio area extends just out from the backdoor and adjacent to the new outdoor kitchen.  Everything was considered, including a grassy area for the kids to play when they’re not enjoying the pool.

Ali is happy that everything went according to plan. She and Craig originally planned on getting other bids for the job, but they were very encouraged with the design plan from the start and felt confident that the Extreme Exteriors team could produce the expected results. “Everything went really well and according to schedule,” Ali said.

The Hanagans look forward to many fun times outside in their new backyard. Long gone are the days when they couldn’t sit outside for more than ten minutes at a time. Whether they’re enjoying a meal with friends, watching their kids play in the pool, relaxing at night in the spa, or simply listening to the gentle sound of the water fountains, they have the backyard that they envisioned and that the Extreme Exteriors team had the privilege to build for them.

Larry and Shea Hall

Clients: Larry and Shea Hall

Project: Landscaping and pool, remodeling pool house, adding outdoor fireplace and patio area. Secondary addition of a pool slide and custom spa

Why: Their philosophy of giving is prevalent each day of their lives. Their home is a natural expression of their desire to share happy moments and to help people feel included and loved.

Extreme Exteriors Services Used: Design, construction, outdoor lighting, retail

When Larry and Shea Hall remodeled their home in 2007, they decided they would love to include a pool. hall3Larry planted trees 25 years previously, so they had some beautiful, mature landscaping and plenty of room for the pool. Shea remembers how company president Randy Glenn presented a 3-D rendering of the pool design so they would be able to easily picture how the pool would look with the existing trees. She said, “He brought the design out and we loved it. When it was done, it literally looked just like the picture.” A few years later, Shea and Larry decided to replace their above ground hot tub with a new spa. The spa features jewel stone mosaic tile that matches the new slide. Shea and Larry both really love relaxing in the new spa. Shea especially likes how she has an app on her phone that allows her to adjust the spa’s temperature and lighting. hall5

Shea mentioned that one of the reasons she loves her outdoor living area so much is because she can share it. “We love the way that it’s set up and the size of it. We can easily share it with one person or with 60! We have huge birthday parties for the grandkids. One of our most favorite things to do is host a swim party every year with the coaches and wives from Cooper High School.” She went on to say, “It’s very comfortable and easy to go from the pool to the pool house. The beach entries are great for kids and adults. It’s a little oasis in the middle of farmland!” Shea thoughtfully pointed hall2out that you don’t have to go to Dallas to get a great pool. She has known company owners Randy and Mikea Glenn for a number of years and praises their “great vision and work ethic.” She was extremely happy that during both construction phases she and Larry were presented with a picture, a budget was set, and the end result was exactly what was promised. She and Randy are now talking about an addition to the porch and she’s really looking forward to seeing a design that’s never been done before. She appreciates the unique and original designs that the Extreme Exteriors team comes up with, which makes every home its own kind of beautiful.

Don and Cathy Carruth

Carruth34r

  • Clients: Don and Cathy Carruth
  • Project: Landscaping, pavers, sod, garden beds
  • Why: They wanted a low-maintenance look and also wanted their entire home and yard to be more cohesive.
  • Extreme Exteriors services used: Design, construction, retail

Carruth 006rDon and Cathy’s last name “Carruth” is synonymous with “adventurous”! It’s not often that you meet someone whose driveway is a runway but for Don and Cathy it’s part of everyday life. Don and Cathy can fly just about anywhere only steps away from their front door. Home has been Midland for 26 years, with the exception of two years they spent as newlyweds in the U.S. Virgin Islands, sailing the seas together. Talk about romantic! I would have loved to stay and listen to their many adventures, but I had a brief window of time to catch up with them before they hopped on the plane again.Carruth 028r

The Extreme Exteriors team recently completed a full-scale renovation on both the front and backyards, extending to guest quarters behind the main residence. The area that looks most different is the front yard, which is pleasing to Cathy. What was once just dirt has been transformed to include a variety of plants and shrubs giving the front yard a more welcoming appearance. “It’s inviting to come home to,” she said. Cathy is also aware that curb appeal helps with resale value, so if she and Don ever need to sell their home, people will be more interested in it.

In both the front and back yards, easy maintenance was a key element of the design. Xeriscaped beds in both locations with drought-tolerant plants were critical to the Carruths, as they are frequently away and don’t want to worry about plants dying because no one is home to water them. A few unique projects that the Carruths requested were a gated dog run in the backyard, raised flower beds in the garden, and pavers beneath the windows. Cathy was especially happy with how she was able to work with the design team on the pavers. Carruth 014rShe had suggested pouring concrete so that she or Don would have a stable place to set up a ladder for washing the windows. The design team recommended using the same pavers that we used to extend their back patio. Cathy said the pavers are both helpful and attractive and that it was a good collaboration. Cathy and Don were also happy that the designers recommended a stucco finish over their existing fence. This was done to accentuate the color of the new Austin stone used in their portico. Cathy said the original portico arches failed and they couldn’t rebuild it using brick because their brick color was no longer in production. Thus, white Austin stone was used for the arches. The Extreme Exteriors design team also used Austin stone for border edging, giving their home and property a cohesive look.

When they are home, Cathy and Don enjoy the extension of their patio, where they like to relax in the new Carruth 018rAdirondack chairs. “It’s our favorite place to sit and read the paper, have coffee, or enjoy breakfast together.” Cathy also enjoys the sound of the water bubbling nearby in the fountain that the Extreme Exteriors team installed. In describing their experience working with the team, Cathy was very complimentary, commenting on the team’s politeness. “There was an ease about speaking to people, and it was evident that they wanted to do their very best.”

Ryan and Deidre Stockard

Clients: Ryan and Deidre StockardStockard 1

Project: Pool, Sod and Irrigation, Pavers

Why: This is the Stockard’s forever home, and they want it to be a place of comfort and relaxation. Their two sons, Cash and Tucker, love the outdoors, and Ryan and Deidre wanted them to be able to spend plenty of time swimming and playing in the pool.

Extreme Exteriors Services Used: Design, Construction, Follow up Maintenance

Who are the best kinds of friends? The ones you can implicitly trust with your home! Ryan and Deidre are great friends with company president Randy Glenn and his wife Mikea, and there’s a big reason for that. “We have a connection of both being entrepreneurs with an outstanding work ethic. We both understand how to create something that no one else can create, and this builds confidence between us.”  That confidence turned into a very positive experience from start to finish.

Stockard 3Deidre was very pleased that she received in-depth explanations as the pool project took shape. “We were given lots of options and they helped explain what was feasible and what would look good,” she said.  “They were never pushy.” During construction, Deidre said she always received very good information on what was happening next and who would be working at their home. And when the pool was completed, she was very thankful that the Extreme Exteriors team made sure she understood how to use the chemicals, how often they should be used, and when it was safe for her boys to use the pool. She appreciated the feeling she got that the door was always open if she had questions, and that we took the time to make sure they loved the final results. “I always recommend Extreme Exteriors because of the process,” Deidre said.Stockard 6

Although the Stockard’s pool has only recently been completed, they have already enjoyed some memorable events, such as hosting their supper club, celebrating Ryan’s birthday, and getting friends together for Memorial Day Weekend. The pool was especially welcome for Memorial Day, as the area’s lakes were closed Stockard 4due to dangerously high water levels. Everyone who comes over notices that the pool fits right in with their home and that it looks like it’s always been there. That’s one of the major goals that Deidre wanted to achieve. Deidre and Ryan are both very happy that the colors of the pavers, the stone, and the shape of the pool all look natural and match the mood of their home. Deidre’s other “must-haves” were the waterfall and the jumping rocks. The waterfall cascades into the deepest part of the pool, and as the boys grow older, they will never have to worry about hitting the bottom of the pool! Deidre and Ryan look forward to their home being a place where the boys’ friends will want to Stockard 5come over and hang out, especially during their middle school and high school years. In the meantime, Deidre and Ryan are having fun watching the boys experience some swimming “firsts” together, like putting on googles and going underwater.

The Stockards know that this is their forever home, and they thoughtfully considered the place they wanted it to be. They had confidence that Randy and the Extreme Exteriors team had the vision and the skill to make it happen. We’re thankful that Deidre and Ryan recommend Extreme Exteriors to their circle of friends and acquaintances, and that we were given the opportunity to work with such a wonderful family!Stockard 2

Darla and Chip Bennett

Clients: Darla and Chip BennettBennett 2

Project: Pool/Spa (Spool), Pavers, Sod, Landscaping

Why: They owned a ranch, where their grandkids visited to go hunting and fishing. Once they relocated to Abilene, they wanted to have a way to entertain their grandkids. They also wanted a way that they could cool down on hot days too!

Extreme Exteriors Services Used: Design, Construction, Follow-up Maintenance

“We could not be happier, everything was very professional.” “The pool was exactly what I envisioned, in fact, it exceeded our expectations. It’s the best money we’ve spent in a long time!” As you can tell, Darla and Chip are thrilled with their new pool! It can be referred to as a spool, because eight spa jets are built in so it functions as a pool or a spa depending on what they want. A remote control adjusts the temperature so it’s very easy to enjoy optimal conditions. For Chip and Darla’s grandchildren who live close by, that means lots of summer fun cooling off in the pool. For their three grandkids who live in Arkansas, they get to enjoy it as a spa when they visit at Thanksgiving or Christmas. Chip and Darla are very happy with the year-round capability that they enjoy with the addition of the spool.

Bennett 3The Bennetts relocated to Abilene from Denver City almost five years ago and thought that their lot was too small for a pool. But one day when Chip was walking around the neighborhood, he saw a spool in one of his neighbor’s backyards and found out that it had been completed by the Extreme Exteriors team. With this information in mind, he contacted us about finding the right design that would work for his home. Chip and Darla were very impressed with the professional design plan they received. Chip appreciated that the plans were to scale and included a key to where the plants would go. They received a competitor’s bid, but he only drew them a pencil sketch on a piece of paper, so Chip and Darla felt that there was no comparison when it came time to choose a builder.

Darla initially thought that the pool would have to be built in their side yard where there was an open space. But in working with the Extreme Exteriors design team, she could see that placing the pool straight outside of the patio doors would allow them to enjoy the backsplash and the fountains even when they were inside.  Once the design plans were finalized, work got underway. “I was really surprised at how fast it got done. They didn’t miss a day of work because of the rain. Once they started, they really knocked it out,” Darla said. Darla was pleased that they could trust the Extreme Exteriors crews to clean up the work site every day, never leaving water bottles or other trash in the yard. She was also happy that the team powerwashed their driveway at the end of the job to remove any lingering dirt that ended up there during construction.

The Bennetts are pleased that they can cool down and relax without having to go anywhere, and that they have something fun for the grandkids to enjoy when they come to visit. They’ve been very pleased with everything from start to finish; from the design, to construction, to the instruction they received on the pool’s control panel and remote control operation. We’re so pleased that the spool was a great fit for their lifestyle and that they are so pleased with the outcome!Bennett 4

Kelli and Clay Bateman

  • Clients: Kelli and Clay Batemanpool and outdoor bar
  • Project: Pool and Spa, Outdoor Fireplace, Backyard Landscape, Fence
  • Why: The time and place were both right to build the pool they had always wanted, or as Kelli nicely said it, “We were in the right season of life.”
  • Extreme Exteriors Services Used: Design and Construction

Extreme Exteriors clientKelli and Clay had some great ideas of what they wanted for their backyard. “We loved the idea of having a hot tub and a fireplace. We also wanted as much pool as we could get for the space available.” The Extreme Exteriors design team took Kelli and Clay’s ideas and came up with a plan that came to life in a wonderful way. The pool features a waterfall that kids can jump off of into the deeper part of the pool just beneath the spa. Kelli likes how there’s plenty of room in the pool for anyone who wants to be on a raft or to relax on the tanning ledge. Kelli also likes the small flower beds around the pool that add some pretty color but are easy to maintain. “I’ll just take a morning to add the color plants and the girls will help me. We love putting the plants in together.” Everyone in the family uses the pool for multiple reasons!  Clay uses it to cool off after playing flower bedsgolf or mowing the lawn, her kids love it for having friends over, and Kelli enjoys sitting close to the pool and visiting with her mom. Kelli really likes the tanning ledge because anyone can easily sit at the water’s edge and dip in their feet and ankles to cool off. The tanning ledge is also a great place for little ones to play. The Batemans have invited over young families to swim and the girls also babysit little ones, so the shallow water is a perfect place for tots to splash and play. Older kids love to swim for a while and then grab a towel and sit under the shade of the pergola. At night, Kelli told me how much fun the teenage kids have over by the fireplace. “They like to roast s’mores on the fireplace and have their own place to talk that’s separate from pool and outdoor barwhere the adults sit.”

Kelli and Clay debated the idea of buying a lake house versus adding a pool to their primary residence, and they realized that for this season of their lives, a pool would be the best option.  Kelli said, “We spend a lot of time at our house. We knew we would use it a lot, which we have! We knew we wanted to do it, the question was when. Everything we talked about was positive so we decided to move ahead with the pool project.” Kelli’s advice to anyone who’s thinking about a pool was to feel confident in expressing the things you want and like. “You want to customize it for your family because it’s an extension of your house,” Kelli said. She also complimented Extreme Exteriors saying, “You did everything you said you would do and we’ve been pleased with the results.”

Kelli and Clay know where they’ll be spending a lot of time this summer, and know their home will continue to be a gathering place for friends and family. From all of us at the Extreme Exteriors team, we want to thank the Batemans for choosing us to design and build the pool they dreamed of!pool

When summertime hits,  it’s a challenge to find ways to entertain fussy kids who can’t play outside. It’s also difficult for moms who have to pack a million things into a hot car and drive somewhere to cool down. Lori and Michael avoid these scenarios because they have their own gorgeous pool right outside their back door. “Our pool is our own oasis where we have our own privacy, where we can run out and go back in if we want to,” Lori said. “When you’re extremely hot you want to get into the water but you don’t want to load up everything because it feels like you’re taking the whole house with you.”  Lori loves that her little ones, ages 2 and 1, can easily cool off and play in the beach entry while she keeps an eye on them.

The beach entry, as well as many other elements of the pool, were all things she and Michael Cast 002discussed with Randy when they met with him regarding their design plan. “The selection process was easy because we had thought about it for so long. We told him we didn’t want a square or rectangular pool. We wanted rocks, a waterfall feature, a spa, and we wanted the color to look kind of like the ocean.” Randy took all these elements into consideration when he designed an amoeba-shaped pool with a beautiful blue plaster finish. Their pool also features two deep ends and a beach entry with bubblers where the kids love to play.

Cast 011Lori and Michael took friends’ advice when they were thinking about everything they wanted for their pool and spa. One helpful suggestion was to create a smooth surface to go around the edge of the spa.  This way if people just want to sit on the edge of the spa and put their feet and legs in their swimsuits won’t get roughed up. They used the spa for the first time a few weeks ago when they invited the kids’ cousins over and had a fun spur of the moment get-together. Lori loves that her home will be a gathering place for her kids’ friends and cousins now and in the future. She plans to host her kids’ birthday parties here and she’s excited that her home will be the “go-to” place when her children want to play with friends.

Of course, the pool isn’t just for the kids. Lori and Michael had a lot of friends over to watch March Madness and enjoy an outdoor cookout. They didn’t go in the pool, but they were able to enjoy the way the pool looked as the lights changed colors.  Everyone who has visited and seen the pool has really been impressed. Lori said they say things like, “Oh my gosh, how awesome is this! Your kids are going to love it!” Or, “It’s so nice, I love the sound of the waterfall.” Lori loves everything about her new pool and would recommend Extreme Exteriors to anyone who is interested in building a pool. “People will always have negative and positive things to say about anyone, but the reason we chose Extreme Exteriors was that everything was very organized. There was a vision as they walked us through everything.  We definitely got what we paid for.”

Cast 023The Extreme Exteriors team was able to completely finish the backyard with the addition of a new grill and refrigerator in the existing outdoor kitchen. The team also installed new sod and added some simple, attractive landscaping. As the temperature starts to rise, Lori is looking forward to a summer full of fun times with friends and family. She and Michael plan to raise their family in this home, and she’s very happy that they chose Extreme Exteriors to help create their family’s “outdoor oasis”.

Jeff and Terry Groban

Project: Pool, Landscaping, Irrigation, Retail

Why: Terry has a high-pressure job and she needs her home to be a place where she can relax and unwind.  Both Terry and Jeff enjoy entertaining and want their home to be very inviting to guests.

For some people home is not much more than a place to throw a frozen dinner in the microwave, toss laundry into the washing machine, and fall asleep on the couch with the TV on. For others, like Jeff and Terry, it’s a lot more than that – it’s a place to host fun parties with friends enjoying delicious, home-cooked meals. It’s also a place to unplug the phone, unwind with a glass of wine and simply relax.

When Terry and Jeff were house-hunting they knew they wanted a place to host friends, as well as a place to unwind from the stresses of the day. The house they found had a wonderful outdoor kitchen. It just needed a pool! “We had a pool at the other house, said Jeff. “Terry loves laying by the pool on the weekends. She has a pretty stressful job and she talked me into building a pool here.”

7570Jeff spent a lot of time talking to designer Randy Glenn about how the pool and patio should look. The design uses Holland pavers to blend in very naturally with the outdoor kitchen that was already there. The Extreme Exteriors team also helped Terry and Jeff choose new, comfortable patio furniture that enhances the areas around the pool and outdoor fireplace.

Their home’s location is perfect for them because they have a large lot with no neighbors behind them, so they don’t really have to worry about being the noise level. This makes it ideal for times when they Groban 016host a lot of people, such as their annual Super Bowl party, where they had about thirty guests over. They also cook out almost every Sunday night with their kids and grandkids.  It also makes it nice for Terry to lay out in the beach entry of the pool and totally chill without noisy neighbors disturbing her peace and quiet. The tranquil atmosphere is only broken by the sound of the water gently cascading from the waterfalls onto the surface of the pool, and that’s relaxing in and of itself!

7568Jeff described how he originally came up with the idea for the small waterfalls. “I was in Colorado for a meeting on the back side of a golf course. There was a stream running near about six or seven of the holes and I enjoyed the sound of the gently running water. “ Jeff and Randy came up with a plan that included two small waterfalls that can be controlled to increase or decrease the flow of water. The waterfalls add a nice touch of visual and audible interest to the overall look.

It’s early in the warm weather season, and the Grobans have enjoyed the pool a little already and look forward to entertaining a lot more this summer.  Jeff heartily recommends Extreme Exteriors, mainly because the team was at the house almost every day doing something to get the job done. He found that when we said it would be done by a certain time that it was done on time.  Our reliability is something that the Extreme Exteriors team takes pride in, and it’s a quality that sets us apart from the competition. We want our valued clients to know that they can count on us to finish the job right, just like we did for Jeff and Terry!

Most people would agree that a highlight of Owens 012 vacationing is seeing things that we don’t get to see every day at home. We always love coming home, but sometimes we miss the beauty of the places we visited. When Lee and Lori Owens asked the Extreme Exteriors team to design their outdoor living space, Lori drew upon her memories of beautiful Mexico and Arizona for some of her inspiration. She also took into consideration how her own tastes had evolved from the time her first pool had been built at her previous home. The result is a breathtaking pool with landscaping that further enhances Owens 013the overall attractiveness of the entire back patio.

One of the design inspirations was the tall palm trees that Lori truly enjoyed from her times visiting Mexico. The Extreme Exteriors team planted four large palms that really added a dramatic, tropical feel.  Underneath the palms are rose bushes that now show small buds, but will add a lot of pretty color in just a few more weeks. Lori saw this particular variety of rose when visiting Scottsdale, Arizona and wanted them for her home in Abilene.

Owens 026Lori’s home is a new build and one of the first things a person noticesOwens 018 when driving up is the mature trees in the front yard. The trees look like they were part of the property before the home was built. In reality, they were another of Lori’s requests that turned out wonderfully well. Lori asked for mature trees and the design team came up with a plan that looks very natural. A large variety of plants including spiral junipers, pom pom yaupons, Italian cypress, and maiden grass adorn the front yard, and a winding path also creates a warm and welcoming look.Owens 021

After many months of planning and building, Lee and Lori now have their dream home. The one they plan to grow old in together making wonderful memories with family and friends along the way.  And even if future travel takes them away, whenever they return they will always feel happy coming back to a place that relaxes them, inspires them, and reassures them that they are home.
